Golfers tee off at the new Conestoga golf
course on Friday. The course held its grand
opening to the public on Jan. 29, along with a
variety of events through Saturday.

Troon Golf Management Company is well known for its world class golf courses and its personalized member services.

It has now come to Mesquite in the form of the Conestoga Golf Club at Sun City Mesquite.

This is only the third Troon course in Nevada, the others being the Revere Club in Henderson and the Badlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Claire Varney, the general manager of the course, said, “this course will be an enjoyable golf experience for everyone because you can make it as easy or as difficult as you want. Different elements are combined to make it a challenging place to play. With the championship tees, even the pro’s can have a good game.”

“Sun City has excellent facilities and this golf course will only add to an already beautiful setting," Varney added.

"The new 18 hole course is open to the public and has been a highly anticipated event," said Varney.

The course was open to the residents of Sun City in November, with exceptional reviews.

The course was designed by renowned golf architect Gary Panks, and will test the ability of even the most accomplished player.

With 51 strategically placed bunkers and never-ending spectacular scenery, the golf course is sure to please.

The grand opening on Friday, Jan. 29, featured a welcome reception, golf tips with golf pro and Director of Education for Troon Golf Tim Mahoney, a tour of the course by designer Gary Panks, and a catered reception in Sun City’s Pioneer Center.

Saturday had several golfing events, including a golf clinic with Mahoney, a hole-in-one contest, a "beat the pro" challenge, and the longest drive contest, as well as trick-shot golf artist Peter Longo showing some amazing tricks.

At least 144 golfers had signed up for Saturday's matches.

Varney said tee times can be booked up to 60 days in advance either by phone or online, and the non-resident rates range from $50 to $140, depending on the time of year.

Significant reductions are given to Sun City residents and their guests.

Golf lessons will also be offered, as well as golf clinics.

The club will complete a brand new full service restaurant in the spring of 2011 to complement the facilities.

For further information, see the website at www.conestogagolf.com or call 702-346-4292.

The golf course is located at 1499 Falcon Ridge Parkway.

$140.00? You've got to be kidding. I'll give this course a year before they get into financial trouble. The Sun City residents aren't going to be able to subsidize the course when outsiders don't play because of the prices. Too many other course options and deals in this area

Just followed the ling to the golf course, and the twilight rate is $99.00. Jake is right on, but I wish them well with the course, jut too bad that we now have another unafordable course in Mesquite. Hey city of Mesquite, are you listening, we need a municipal golf course in theis town, not everyone can afford these sky high rates that our local courses charge.

If you can't afford the free-market golf fees, find another form of recreation! Why should all taxpayers have to subsidize the costs of a public municipal golf course?

The course is beautiful and the club will be fantastic when finished. It is a combo of the best of Wolf Creek and Falcon Ridge and $140 is only the at the best peak times. Its worth it. Check it out.

while it is a nice course it is not $95 better than the courses around here you can play with the mesquite card. i predict it will not last if they do not lower prices- 1-you pull up to golf and you get swarmed by attendents-anothe $5 bucks 2-the rates are entirely way too high for what it is 3-i can play falcon ridge or ohasis which is just as nice for 45-55 bucks with mesquite card 4-no bar or food 5-when you leave your course another 5 bucks as you get swarmed again and cannot drive to your car i say they will not last or will have to go to mesquite card soon-just my humble opinion

I assume the people making the comments above also pay sticker price for cars? They have discount programs for locals (my sone has a card) and Sun City residents (that's me). Other than Wolf Creek the other courses don't compare. Keep playing those courses, it keep my pace of play fast!

Pulte and Troon misjudged the market big time. The only residents I know of that like and play the course are those that get the $25.00 rate
