The DMV office is moving from J.L. Bowler Plaza on Sandhill Blvd. to this new
location on Pioneer Blvd. near the ERA Brokers Consolidated.

New facility boasts many improvements

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will be moving its field services branch office in Mesquite next week.

No DMV services will be available in Mesquite on Monday, Nov. 23, to enable workers to move into the new office.

The new facility at 550 W. Pioneer Blvd. Suite 120 will open Tuesday, Nov. 24.

The old office, which opened in 1998, is located in the Smith’s shopping center at 330 N. Sandhill Road Suite H.

Services there will be offered as usual through Friday, Nov. 20.

The new office, with 1,482 square feet of space, is slightly larger than the old office but the cost of the lease is the same.

It features four service windows, automated knowledge testing and a self-service cash kiosk.

The new landlord has built the space to specifications at no cost to the state.

Improvements at the new facility include easier access to handicapped parking and restrooms. banner

It also features an on-site course for motorcycle drive tests.

Previously, those exams were held at an off-site parking lot several blocks away.

The Department encourages Mesquite residents to use its alternate services when possible.

Many transactions, such as registration renewals or address changes, can be completed on the Internet or by mail.

"It also features an on-site course for motorcycle drive tests. Previously, those exams were held at an off-site parking lot several blocks away." At least the former cemetery parking lot site may have encouraged some to reflect on the organ-donor "calculated odds" of scooter/motorcycle riding. The lanes directly in front of Walmart and Smiths are very high risk locations, because of numerous driver distractions and pedestrian interaction.

Will it still feature the high tech, hand written numbers that people pass to each other when they leave? How about the 4 clerk stations manned by 1 or maybe 2 clerks on the busiest of days? Can they at least have a DSL connection so that the computers aren't bogged down for a little speed up in service time since they are under staffed? How about one of those big city LED signs that have the "Now serving number...." thing on it so you don't have to find someone to tell you what number they are on, it could be easily seen and you could judge if you have time to go to St. George or not.
