CasaBlanca Presents Comedy Three Ring Circus

them was a long one.

Tears were flowing Saturday night in the showroom of the CasaBlanca, but this was no sad affair.

Far from it.

The Casa is once again offering free comedy shows on Saturday nights at 7 p.m. and last weekend they presented the comedy circus of Bruce Baum and Vic Dunlop.

The duo performed to a packed house and had everyone in stitches, and many were wiping away tears from laughing so hard.

Baum and Dunlop call their performance a three ring circus as they break up their show into three acts.

The first ring was stand up comedy where they each took the stage for a brief solo performance.

Baum went first and while he was clever with his jokes, he really set the table for Dunlop, who was by far the crowd favorite.

Baum talked about a dream he had where he was a chinaman named Yee Haw.

He said that he went to a rodeo in Texas and could not understand how everyone knew his name.

He wondered aloud about the existence of prostitutes in Mesquite, and if they existed would they be known as Mesquitehos.

Baum explained that he had recently quit smoking pot because Visine wasn’t working anymore and he’d had to switch to liquid paper.

Dunlop took to the stage and soon enough the tears began to flow. Dunlop started off saying that he thought Mesquite would be a beautiful city if somebody would bother to finish building it.

He then broke into a lengthy monologue about his days in Catholic school.

“13 years in Catholic school,” he said “but I’m o.k. now, I’m o.k. now. I’m o.k. now.”

He spoke about the nuns that had educated/tortured him and it was here that the comedy became a little colorful.

He said that he had been educated by biker nuns, one of whom he said sported a tattoo that read “born to raise Lazarus”.

He switched his focus onto the Jews and asked if Judo was what the Jewish make bagels out of.

He finished with a routine that saw him don red eyeballs.

He told the audience that whenever he gets pulled over by a cop he pops in the eyeballs and puts on the soundtrack from the Twilight Zone.

He never gets a ticket.

The second ring of the circus was a brief improve routine that reunited the pair on stage.

The improv bit fell a little flat but it was really just setting up the crowd for the big finish.

The third ring was audience participation as the pair played a game they called “make me laugh.”

Three volunteers were brought from the crowd to the stage one at a time to take part in the game.

The object was for the volunteers to keep a straight face while the comedians hammered them with jokes up close and personal.

First up was a woman named Janet who said she worked at Mesa View Hospital.

She was a rock, and the duo announced that she had made it to the finals.

Next up was Chrissie, who also kept a stoic look on her face throughout the 60-second barrage of jokes.

Then a man was invited to the stage, but he burst out laughing on the first joke, and the final round between Chrissie and Janet was set to go.

Janet nearly stole the show with her performance.

These two brave women were asked to stand behind the comedians and put their arms around the waists of each comedian.

The ladies would use their arms to make all the hand and arm gestures coinciding with the jokes.

This was a routine popularized on the TV show “Whose Line Is It?”

Janet was flat out hilarious working with Dunlop and when, at the end of his routine, Dunlop announced that he needed to relieve himself, Janet grabbed the belt on Dunlop’s trousers and began undoing it.

She got so far as to actually start working the button of the pants when Dunlop called an end to the routine.

Janet received a huge ovation from the crowd and Dunlop announced, “She just told me that she works at a hospital, and was prepared to go all the way.”

Coming on the heels of that routine, Chrissie and Baum’s performance was a let down and Janet was declared the winner.

She was given a CasaBlanca drinking cup, a rap CD and a pair of Dunlop’s red eyeballs.

The show ran for about 90 minutes, which was plenty long enough.

The comedy was side splitting funny and after 90 minutes it began to get painful.

These two have played the room before, and hopefully they will be back soon.

If you missed out this week, don’t worry, these comedy shows happen every Saturday night at 7 p.m. with different comedians, and they are free.
