| Starbucks Closing Posting Date: 04-17-2009 By Morris Workman

 | The Starbucks store located near the corner of Pioneer Blvd. and Falcon Ridge Parkway is shutting down in early May as one of more than 300 stores being closed by the company in 2009. |
The Starbucks coffee shop near the corner of Pioneer Blvd. and Falcon Ridge Parkway is closing.
It is one of more than 300 coffee outlets being shut down by the company over the next few months.
This is on top of the 600 stores which were shuttered in 2008.
“Starbucks used several criteria to identify stores for closure that included locations that were not profitable and not believed to provide acceptable returns in the foreseeable future,” a company spokesman said.
“In addition to site and market-specific criteria, consideration was given to the impact of the current and anticipated economic trends.”
The closure comes almost exactly one year after the store opened in April of 2008 in one of the new shopping structures located across the street from Wal Mart.
While the company refused to specify a date, an outside source confirmed that the Mesquite store’s last day will be May 8.
It is the second national chain to announce its impending departure from the commercial corner of Pioneer and Falcon Ridge, following the news that Walgreens would be closing its store at that location and moving to the recently renovated store on Sandhill Blvd.
The closure of the Starbucks store, which included a drive-thru, will not affect the three other Starbucks outlets in Mesquite, including the shop which remains open in the Oasis hotel.
The other two Starbucks outlets are located in the CasaBlanca hotel and the Virgin River Casino. |

Posted Date: 04/18/2009 um... here's a thought... Why not close the Oasis shop and keep this one open. None of the ones that are staying open have drive thrus! Dish out another Black Eye to Black Gaming. By: 'Black Eye' Black |

Posted Date: 04/18/2009 It's very sad this Starbucks is closing. They have some of the nicest employees in Mesquite. We will not go in the smoke filled casino ones. And, they are not Starbucks employees, but Black Gaming. Good luck those of you losing your jobs. We will miss your smiling faces.

Posted Date: 04/20/2009 I guess Mesquite being the largest growing city in Nevada is not on the criteria list. I will not go into the casinos to get my starbucks. I will miss the authentic Starbucks and employees as well as the only drive thru Starbucks in Mesquite. Anyone else with these feelings should contact Starbucks at 18002352883. Posted Date: 04/20/2009 Ive never seen such closed minded, simple thinking people as those who leave comments blaming Randy Black for everything negatively effecting Mesquite. Did the thought ever enter your mind, limited as it may be, that one store is company owned (Falcon Ridge) while the others are franchised operations? Has anyone ever thought of giving Randy credit for introducing Starbucks into the Mesquite market? Last I checked, franchises opportunities for national corporations are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, not to mention they must purchase the company's overly inflated products to remain in compliance with the lease. Certain individuals in Mesquite need accept reality. Pardon the pun but wake up and smell the coffee. By: Why? |
