Dr. Alex Blazzard established his office in Mesquite at 840 Pinnacle Court at the end of 2004, for a grand opening in 2005.

He left a thriving dental business in Las Vegas to come to Mesquite to establish a home and open an office.

When asked why he came to Mesquite, he said “The dental business was great in Las Vegas. But the day to day living was not conducive to staying in Vegas. It was not where we wanted to be the next 30 years.”

Dr. Blazzard and his wife Heather both grew up in St. George, Utah, and still have family there.

The small town nature of Mesquite and the friendly customer base here is what Dr. Blazzard was looking for when he opened his business.

“My specialty is older population and retired folks but I do family dentistry also.”

When Dr. Blazzard first opened his office, there were not as many dentists registered in Nevada.

This caused a full schedule for six months in advance, and delayed follow ups to six months unless there was a cancellation in the schedule.

There was no chance for a day off if it was necessary or to see patients in a few days for a follow up.

“Now there are numerous dentists in Mesquite, and we can schedule appointments within a few weeks, and there is time available for patients to take the time they need to ask questions and receive the personal care they want,” Blazzard said.

“Part of my service is to educate people on what is best for them. I have a conservative attitude about my dentistry. I want to be current on the latest technology but I don’t want to be experimenting with techniques on my patients.”

Blazzard has a small lab in his office where he can do some minor dental appliance work to facilitate quick fittings of crowns and implants without having to ship items back to the main lab in St. George.

There is no full dental lab in Mesquite at this time.

He also has video cameras to record dental features in the patient’s mouth, and monitors to allow the patient to see what the problem might be as the dentist sees it.

The office has two hygienists, Carolyn and Mandy, and two dental assistants Nicole and Ashley, and two office assistants, Amy and Carrie.

Blazzard’s wife was also in the office daily, however she now does the bookkeeping from home.

The couple is expecting twins in April and he said, “We’re excited about that.”

Blazzard went to college at Dixie State College, and at the University of Utah.

They went to San Francisco to dental school at the University of the Pacific.

After dental school he worked 18 months as a resident at the V.A. hospital in Salt Lake City.

He said, “it spoils you working for the V.A. because what patients need to have fixed was completed at the government cost, and I did not have to worry about insurance or the patient’s ability to pay. Whatever needed to be done was taken care of right there.”

“I saw a lot, and I did a lot. It was good training for being a single dentist in an office because you learn all aspects of dentistry and health care.”
